My Case and My Campaign Against Word Verification Comment Blogs
I've been giving some thought to word verification. I don't use word verification on my comment box. Because I feel it's a huge pain in the ass. Sometimes it takes me longer to type the word verification than it takes me to type the whole response! If I’m wrong, please tell me so. But I can’t imagine being wrong, after all, I am hardly ever wrong, if ever.
Frankly, I just don’t buy it, people say they want it because it helps prevent spam-generating automated robots from creating profiles and sending emails, and all that garbage. I feel it’s a major inconvenience. Especially when you are in a hurry. How many times have you gotten the Word Verification letters wrong and you had to repeat it over and over until you just said, eh, screw it! I don’t know about you, but it’s happens to me often.
If I get anyone that I feel is unwanted, I just Ban the IP number and Brrr bye, their history. It hasn’t happened often, I think it was about 4 times that I had to use the Ban switch and zap the culprits.
Don’t you think that it’s unfair that our visitors be forced through an extra pain in the ass step because of a handful of spammers? It should be the spammers who are punished, not our legitimate friends and visitors. That being said, I am willing to give you Word Verification fanatics a chance to redeem yourselves and remove that pest of a feature in order to keep bloggers like me who hate that thing and keep us as frequent visitors.
If you want to join my campaign then please remove that dumb Word Verification feature from your Comment Box. I’ve asked Blogger to do so before but they just don’t care about us visitors that find this annoying. But now that they see it in black and white, will they listen? Will they care?
I have already notified the Bloggers International Committee in Washington and in Stockholm, Sweden. And they are working on this problem as we speak. I was told that they have a caucus in session.
